STUDENT ASSIGNMENT

On December 18, 2007, the Pinellas County School Board approved a new close-to-home student assignment plan for 2008-09. The new plan aspires to provide the following:

  • Predictable feeder patterns
  • Multiple school options
  • Schools close-to-home
  • Students with access to peers from multiple cultures and diverse backgrounds that possess a broad variety of diverse skills, talents and abilities
  • That transportation issues for parents and families are reduced, along with transportation costs for the district
  • A simple application process
  • A uniform set of rules for the entire county

    OTHER SCHOOL CHOICE OPTIONS

Magnet and Fundamental Programs -- Magnet programs offer a wide range of opportunities with specialized curriculum. Fundamental schools emphasize a "back-to-basics" structure, student responsibility and mandatory parent involvement.

Career Academies are programs offered at the high school level that organize academic coursework around an industry or occupational theme.

For information about the late application process for the current school year, contact the school offices directly.

Charter schools are independent public schools operating under a contractual agreement with the Pinellas County School Board. Parents interested in this option should contact the charter school directly.

No Child Left Behind (NCLB) provides public school choice options for any student attending a Title 1 school if the school does not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) as outlined in the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
